The OceanGate Expeditions crew includes the expedition leader, mission director, submersible pilots, technicians, and support crew.
Mission Specialists join the expedition for specific missions to support the Operations Crew and Content Experts in a variety of support roles aboard the submersible.
Mission Specialists join the expedition for a single mission and actively participate by assisting the crew in one or more supporting roles. Training and/or hands-on guidance from the operations crew is provided for all available support roles including:
Assist the pilot and content expert with identifying undersea objects, conducting species counts, and recording the team’s observations.
Operate the on board cameras to capture video and still photographs of the different species and features encountered during the dive.
Assist the pilot with sub-to-surface communications, submersible navigation, and sonar scanning.
Each mission includes accomplished experts, explorers, and researchers in the fields of marine biology, bioenergetics, shark ecology, and deep water ecosystems.
These content experts provide insight and knowledge about the marine habitats at the sites before, during, and after the submersible dives, and may include:
Edd is the Chief Operations Officer at CEIS and developed the Shark and Ray research program at CEI. Edd’s core expertise is in shark spatial distribution and physiology, with many hours of research on deep water species of shark and other species.
Andy is the Director of CEI. His expertise is fish behavior and ecology. He has coordinated a number of underwater survey programs, including analysis of deep water grenadier fish swimming.
